Storytelling Team Vision
A community where everyone feels empowered to share their authentic experience
Mission
To create events that highlight the power of personal storytelling to foster discovery, connection and to strengthen community
We Recognize
Members of We the People Warwick (WTPW) have recognized the extraordinary power that personal stories have in connecting, engaging, inspiring, and healing us. Since the beginning of humankind, stories have been the essential building blocks of empathy, human connection, and community. That is why WTPW members are working hard to call forth the stories of struggle, joy, resilience, and just basic humanness that exist in the members of our own community.
Current Initiatives
Warwick Story Share - Approximately a dozen Warwick residents tell 5-minute personal stories. These community stories provide an opportunity to learn from another person's experience and can shape, strengthen or challenge our opinions and values.
The great thing is that here at Warwick Story Share, we’re regular folks– not professional speakers. We understand, and even expect that participants are shy, nervous, and at the same time, excited and want to relate. These emotions are completely normal. Especially when it comes to putting yourself “out there.” Have you heard the expression “Face the fear and do it anyway?”
Your community would not only love to hear your story, but someone may even need to hear it. Whose life might you touch? Who might you cheer? Who might you encourage? It doesn’t have to be an epic event, though it could be. But often it’s the small slice of life stories that inspire insight, joy, laughter, regret, sorrow, victory, success.
o The intention is to continue to offer Warwick Story Share a couple times a year at different venues throughout the Town of Warwick. Find out more here.
"A Day in the Life" - Small Group Gatherings
What’s it like to be a school nurse? A grocery clerk? A farmer? A police officer? A plumber? A community volunteer? Often we don’t know much about the work of others, but We the People Warwick's “A Day in the Life” program offers a glimpse into daily lives such as these.
Much like our Warwick Story Share events, these “A Day in the Life” gatherings allow us to connect with our neighbors through stories
they share about what they do. We the People Warwick recognizes that an opportunity to look inside the day of another can engage our sense of curiosity and deepen our connection.
At these casual one-and-a half-hour gatherings, two or three residents have approximately15-20 minutes to share their stories. Presenters might describe a typical day, a memorable day, or what they find most rewarding or challenging about their job or activity. There is also time for questions from the audience.
Our "A Day in the Life" gatherings will be offered twice a year. Find out more here.
