Education Events Action Team

Education Events Team Mission

To identify and create events and educational opportunities to foster and celebrate diversity, learning, discovery, connection, and make everyone feel a sense of belonging

Long Term Goal

  • Build trust, understanding, and connection across differences so all members of the community feel safe in learning what connects us and what holds us apart

Short Term Goals

  • Talk with/inform members of our town at every opportunity, including community meetings and other occasions, about the goals of WTPW and provide information about its dialogue series, action team initiatives, and how to get involved

  • Attend Board of Education meetings to stay abreast of school programs and educational terminology and to use/foster dialogue to address community concerns

  • Create community events that advance the larger WTPW goals of building/strengthening community

Current Initiatives

  • Warwick Story Share - Approximately a dozen Warwick residents tell 5-minute personal stories. These community stories provide an opportunity to learn from another person's experience and can shape, strengthen or challenge our opinions and values.

    • The intention is to continue to offer Warwick Story Share periodically at different venues throughout Warwick Township.

  • "A Day in the Life" - Small Group Gatherings

    • What’s it like to be a school nurse? A grocery clerk? A farmer? A police officer? A plumber? A community volunteer? Often we don’t know much about the work of others, but We the People Warwick's “A Day in the Life” program will offer a glimpse into daily lives such as these.

    • Our "A Day in the Life" gatherings will be offered twice a year. Find out more here.

Looking Ahead

  • Volunteer as a group representing WTPW for community projects, community visioning projects, or any fun and constructive event that will bring people together to achieve WTPW objectives.

  • Reach out to community groups, places of worship, civic organizations to discuss the importance of creating chances for dialogue to happen when racial and political differences threaten civility.

  • Establish book clubs/discussions with the goal of finding common ground when addressing challenging cultural topics.

  • Institute a cultural food fair to celebrate diversity.

Other Ideas

  • Have a open community party at one of the village parks. Ask guests to bring a favorite traditional dish from their family heritage.

  • Start a community arts project. Use the arts and media as a means for people to express themselves and their own cultural identities. Such a community arts projects can take many forms: photo-text exhibits - video and audio “Speak outs” - murals and other pieces of public art. In some communities, short plays have been “discussion starters” for community conversations.

  • Hold a film festival that highlights diversity issues.
