Core Values
We ask that everyone be mindful of our core values and treat each other with respect, be courteous and be safe.
Stronger Together
We need each other. People joined in shared purpose are stronger than individuals. Helping each other, we reweave communities of support, strength and trust.
Equality
At the heart of every time exchange is equality. Everyone has value, everyone has something to offer and everyone’s time is equal. An hour is an hour, regardless of the service.
Redefining Work
Work is beyond that which is done in exchange for money. It includes all of the activities it takes to raise children, to sustain families, communities, democracy, the future, and to advance social justice. The real economy is people. Work should be joyful, valued, shared and enjoyed. Warwick Time Exchange helps you trade time: it allows you more time to do the things you enjoy while getting help with things you don’t enjoy doing, don’t know how to do, or can’t do yourself. We all know chores go quicker with a helping hand, and working together can feel like play.
Assets
We are all assets. Every human being has something of value to contribute. Warwick Time Exchange encourages participation from all, including youth, to share skills and build connections. We recognize that the world takes all kinds of people, and all kinds of knowledge and talent. Many people have skills that they do not even realize, skills they may take for granted that could help someone else. We empower people to grow their abilities and learn new skills, to stop limiting ourselves by thinking of what we can’t, and to imagine the possibilities of what we can accomplish together.
Reciprocity
Rather than the question “How can I help you?”, the question “How can we help each other build the world we both want to live in?” acknowledges that helping works better as a two-way street. It is a gift to be able to help someone, and we should allow each other that gift by not only offering help, but also asking for and accepting it.
Respect
Everyone matters. We must remember to respect where people are in the moment, not where we hope they will be at some future point. Through reciprocity we respect ourselves and each other. No one is a burden, we are all givers and receivers, teachers and students.
